With Penn State’s training camp opening Thursday, Joe Paterno has been talking to the media about the upcoming season and it sounds like he plans to be a lot more involved than he has in the past.
Paterno has told players he wasn’t satisfied with last year’s 7-6 record, critiqued his own performance as poor and even promised to get more involved in playcalling this fall.
“Hey, your day in the sun’s over,” Paterno said he told his staff. “I’m going to call a lot more plays, a lot more defenses and the whole bit. So get ready. That may be bad, but I’m going to do it.”
At the Big Ten Media Days last week, the re-energized Paterno said he has no intent of walking away from Penn State anytime soon.
“Right now I’m looking at four or five years,” Paterno said. “That may be optimistic, I don’t know.”
