The Georgia Bulldogs are in trouble. After 1 game of the 2011 season, it is obvious that the Bulldogs have picked up right where they left off last season and that is a very bad thing.
The defense still hasn’t matured and still appears to be quite prone to injury. The offense, well, it’s like a dog that’s been given way too much chocolate. It’s a mess. Mark Richt’s backside must be flaming hot about now as he is THISCLOSE to being run out of town on a rail, something that should have happened last year. I am also quite certain that stuffed dolls of Mike Bobo are being stabbed endlessly with voodoo pins about now as well. It’s just not good if you’re a Georgia fan.
Georgia lost and badly to Boise State. The excuse makers came out in full force. Boise was a top ranked team. The game didn’t matter because it was outside the SEC. And on and on and on. Of course, the excuses were just that and the truth is a little less whiny. The Bulldogs are not a good football team at present and their coaching is severely lacking.
Coming up tomorrow, the Bulldogs will get South Carolina. They are in the SEC. They are a top ranked team. They did beat the Bulldogs last year. They will in all likelihood beat the Bulldogs this weekend as well. It’s just the way it is.
Georgia does have one stat in their favor for the weekend matchup, they are 25-7 against South Carolina in Athens all-time. That’s a pretty good stat. If Bulldog fans are looking for something to hold on to, that would probably be the stat. Also, in three of the last 4 seasons the Bulldogs have come away from the South Carolina matchup with a 1-1 record. That would be a huge accomplishment if they do that this weekend, but don’t hold your breath.
On the other hand, before last year, South Carolina had beaten the Bulldogs 14 times in their history. In 10 of those wins, South Carolina had a 2 game win streak against Georgia. Right now, they have the 1 win from last year, and winning tomorrow would put them at the 2 game win streak stat. I know, it’s not much of a stat, but it is still a stat.
The real stat is that South Carolina is ranked 12th while Georgia isn’t even in the top 25 anymore after the loss to Boise State. The other real stat is that South Carolina is the better football team.
The only hope that Georgia football fans have is that the team can keep it close and perhaps make some unexpected plays. But that is a long shot. It is more likely Georgia will be 0-2 to start the season and it’s not going to be pretty.
