In fact, they won’t name one until training camp. So, the Steeler Nation is still in suspense over what will happen to their offense and Big Ben makes them look weak once again. For me this was always the biggest issue–he’s making them look bad at every turn. The fans turned against him and now they’re not sure what to do. How long before the fans turn on the whole team?
Mike Tomlin doesn’t seem to be worried–but he should be:
“Some of the evaluation-oriented things can’t take place in shorts. So it’s on my radar, but not very high on the to-do list at this point. It will be addressed at some point.”
For me, this is code for, “I have no freaking idea what I’m doing right now”. I think it might also be code for, “I didn’t sign up for this”.
So, I think this can only go one way–the Steelers get screwed. If they keep him half the fanbase will hate him AND the team. If they move on they’ll get killed for not trading him, being unable to trade him, or not dealing with this sooner.
Big Ben just made it so hard in Pittsburgh that Mike Tomlin can’t even be decisive–and that’s bad because he’s a pretty decisive cut-and-dry type of dude.
I’m not saying the Steelers are completely sunk–I still have this feeling that Dennis Dixon could be the right dude at the right time in Steel town–but he isn’t that just yet and it’s going to be painful if they have to find out.
Good luck Steeler nation–you’re going to need it.
