According to ESPN, the Seattle Seahawks are planning to release Leon Washington.
Washington became expendable after the Seahawks acquired wide receiver Percy Harvin from the Vikings.
Harvin has five career return touchdowns and said last season he envisions himself remaining on return teams. He averaged 35.9 yards on 16 kickoff returns in nine games in 2013.
Washington posted the news on Twitter, thanking fans for their support during his time in Seattle. His release saves the Seahawks $1.5 million against the salary cap in 2013.
Washington averaged a career-best 29 yards per kickoff return last season and 8.7 yards on punt returns. He has eight kickoff returns for touchdowns in his career and an average of 25.9 yards per return.
