An interview with Penn State head football coach Bill O’Brien ahead of the Nittany Lions beginning their spring practice.
One of the key story lines of this off-season is the arrival of highly touted quarterback recruit Christian Hackenberg. While the Fork Union native won’t arrive on campus until June, giving him little time to grasp the offense, O’Brien isn’t keeping him out of the mix. Unlike last year when he named Matt McGloin his starter following the spring, O’Brien is in no hurry to name a starter this time around.
“Certainly, he’ll be in the mix,” O’Brien said of Hackenberg who will compete with returning signal caller Steven Bench and incoming junior college transfer Tyler Ferguson. “At every single position, we’re going to play the best players. We’ll give him some reps and see how he does, certainly.”
