There was no Tebowing yesterday, but the point has been made. The Broncos won a playoff game last week. This week, they ran into a team that is very good at preparing and had the benefit of watching the Steelers screw up coverages and schemes for Tebow last week. So, the Patriots kicked the crap out of the Broncos, however:
1. If John Elway works with Tebow, he could easily make Tebow into John Elway Jr. It wouldn’t be hard. Tebow, had he been in a pro style offense in college, would have already been going down that path when he got to the NFL. Now, it’s Elway’s job to solve Tebow’s problems.
2. The Denver defense got torched and that cannot be forgotten. Tebow doesn’t play defense, so the defense has to take a lot of the blame. I saw people asking if Tebow was going to thank Jesus for all the touchdowns the Patriots scored. (First off, that’s ignorant and offensive, and people I’m friends with on Facebook need to realize that it’s deeper than that and they sound pretty stupid when they say it. George Carlin had examples, and he was a comedian. You’re just posting on Facebook. Stop being ridiculous.) The point is this–the defense failed yesterday while Tebow, who was not that great, did some nice things in the first half early.
3. Most importantly, it should be noted that John Fox is a defensive guy who just failed at his job as the head coach who is also the defensive guy. Let the offensive people deal with Tebow and make an offense that works for him. Now, Fox has to figure out how to prevent debacles like this in the future for his defense. Tebow never had a chance to come back yesterday. Don’t forget that.
We just need a little perspective or we blame the whole loss on Tebow. He could be great, given the right parameters. I’m willing to wait and see. Are you?
