Dawgs Day

The Georgia Bulldogs have the SEC Championship game in their sights.  The only thing standing between them and a chance at a season to remember is Kentucky.

The Bulldogs face off with the Kentucky Wildcats today in a game that if Georgia wins they will be able to play in the SEC Championship game.  It’s that simple and that huge.  Georgia is on an 8 game winning streak.  Georgia is 8-2 overall and 6-1 in the SEC.  If they make it to the SEC Championship game it will be the 4th time they have done so in head coach Mark Richt’s 11 year tenure.  One that was looking quite shaky after an 0-2 start to the season.

Georgia has posted wins over Tennessee, Florida and Auburn for the first time in the same season since 1981.  Georgia has won 6 straight conference games for the first time since 1982 and 8 straight overall for the first time since 2002.

After Georgia lost to South Carolina earlier in the season and went down 0-2, a lot of people wrote them off and wrote off Coach Richt as well.  But he and the team kept focused.  They only concentrated on the next game. Get through the next game and then concentrate on the next.  They were intensely focused on not letting everything swirling around, the possibility that Coach Richt could lose his job, the media coverage that wasn’t always kind, the fans who had lost faith.  They just kept focused on the next game.

Georgia QB Aaron Murray has a school-record 27 touchdown passes with only eight interceptions.  The Bulldogs are No. 4 in the nation in total defense. Linebacker Jarvis Jones leads the SEC with 10 sacks. Safety Bacarri Rambo is second in the nation with seven interceptions.

Kentucky has not fared well this year versus SEC opponents.   The Wildcats are not only 0-3 against Top 25 opponents — getting outscored 137-20 — but they also have been outscored 127-18 in losing their three SEC road contests.  They  have also allowed at least 134 rushing yards in 8 straight games and Georgia’s running game averages 188.4 yards on the ground.

A huge game for the Dawgs today….let’s hope they make it a good one!
