Maybe it’s because they’re a baseball town?
Donovan McNabb isn’t getting any younger, but he’s not getting any worse either. So, why does Philly hate him so much? Do they put too much of the blame for a “lack of a title” on Donovan? Sure, he’s not perfect, but shouldn’t other figures on the team draw their ire?
Look at Brian Westbrook. He hasn’t been healthy…ever. However, you never hear anyone say, “That bum Westbrook needs to stop getting hurt!”…do you?
What about Reggie White (God rest him)? Do we ever hear people say, “The Reggie White screwed us when he went to Green Bay!”? No. I know it’s different eras of the team, but you get the idea.
Have we ever talked about Andy Reid? This dude is absentee on his family (apparently) AND he’s in complete control AND he hasn’t won a Super Bowl either?
When Jimmy Johnson–Eagles Defensive Coordinator passed away(God rest him, too)–did anyone call Andy Reid to task after the feeling had subsided and say, “So, who are you going to hire?” No.
He isn’t held to task for anything. Basically, Andy Reid must have something on the people of Philly. Pictures…video…something. How else would they completely give him a pass when he’s just as guilty–if not more–than anyone?
True, Donovan is NOT perfect, but he doesn’t suck either. These folks are already calling for Kevin Kolb to be their starter, to trade Donovan, to cut him, I bet if I looked I’d find a “Trade Donovan McNabb” website. Yeah, that’s pretty scary.
Is it because he’s the “face of the franchise”? Well, other “faces” haven’t won Super Bowls and they aren’t hated. Dan Marino, Jim Kelly, Bernie Kosar…the folks in Miami, Buffalo, and Cleveland LOVE these guys. What the freakin’ difference?
Philly must be an angrier town than I thought. I’ve never been there (sat in the airport once for 8 hours, but that doesn’t count).
It isn’t as pleasant as it looks in “National Treasure” is it?
