Arizona and New Orleans will meet up on Saturday for a chance to play in the NFC Title Game. In New Orleans…but New Orleans backed into the playoffs like a Mack Truck.
The Cardinals needed a little luck and a SERIOUS miracle-defensive-play to beat the Packers last weekend. They had the game fully in hand and let the Packers come back on them and scare the living daylights out of them before Aaron Rodgers lost an unfortunate fumble that was returned for a TD to end the game.
The Saints had the week off, but they ended the regular season in the opposite spirit of their first 13 games. For the first 13 games of the season the Saints looked unbeatable and for the last 3 games they looked totally beatable.
Now they’ve had a week of to get themselves together and plan for the Cardinals. I’m not sure the amount of preparation that went on in New Orleans, but I can be sure that Drew Brees was hooting and hollering all week about how they couldn’t let this season slip away. He’s a great leader in the mold of the great QB’s of years past, but there’s this other QB in the game too.
Kurt Warner, reportedly, is playing his final postseason in the NFL (in a career which has become more Hall of Fame-like everytime he hits the field) and now he’s got just a ltitle bit to prove.
Did you see his face during last week’s game? The way he was talking to Ken Whisenhunt? The way he was gesturing to his team as if to say “We ARE going to do this or you’re all dead!”
I saw the intensity in his eyes and given the Cards playoff run last season I cannot vote against them even though I know that the Saints have Brees, and Sharper, and Bush. It’s sooooo hard to call, but I’m going to do it anyways.
