The Colts lost the Super Bowl in dramatic fashion after everyone on earth spent two weeks praising them to the sky. Now that the dust has settled, New Orleans didn’t burn in the celebration, and Peyton Manning has taken a step back in his legacy…where do they go from here?
The Colts couldn’t run the ball all season, but in the Super Bowl they decided they were ready to run and ran pretty well for most of the first half.
If they know what’s good for them Joseph Addai will be featured a little more prominently next year to balance the strong passing game of Peyton Manning. I’m not saying Peyton can’t handle it, but they need a little more “run” in their lives.
Peyton also needs to take a new step. I slammed him for not being able to win the “big one”, but maybe he can’t win the “big one” because he needs total control. In the same way we say certain coaches should have total control, perhaps Peyton needs total control of the Colts offense.
What does that mean?
Let Tom Moore retire, and make Peyton Manning the offensive coordinator. No, I’m serious. How smooth would it be to have the dude who gets the ball every down to be in COMPLETE control over the offense he’s running. If Lenny Wilkins can win the NBA Title as a player/coach in Seattle then Peyton might be able to win a Super Bowl that way.
Would that be asking too much of him? No! I’ve already said that he will probably be one of the finest offensive minds of the next generation…so why not start now!?
If Peyton Manning is named the OC in Indianapolis then Jim Caldwell needs to step up his game. He’ll need to clamp down on the rest of the team and become a little more vocal. Even a little bit more help from the “headset” would be useful.
Peyton Manning for Colts OC…who’s with me!?
