What About 2010 For The New York Jets?

The Jets SHOULD be flying high.

The Jets came very close to winning the AFC Title this season and they have alot of young pieces to build on for 2010.  So, where do they go from here?

Well, let’s look at the positives.  They have almost a complete pro bowl Offensive Line.  They have a good, young QB.  They have a big, tall target for said QB.  They have a good, young Running Back.  They have a receiver-like Tight End.  Heck, they even have a good back-up QB.

They have the best defensive player in the league–Darelle Revis.  However, there are some ways in which their defense can improve.  I know, they were the #1 defense in the league, but that let the Colts comeback on them and that is troubling.  For one thing, they’ll have to deal with “help” for Darelle Revis next season.  Now that everyone knows how good he is you can bet that “tape-a-plenty” will be watched on Revis.  Plus, this also means that they’ll want to get bigger up front.  I don’t mean new starters…just in depth.

If they get deeper across their defense then they will scare everybody all over again in 2010.  Plus, with Doug Plank working out his namesake–the “46 defense” it COULD evolve into something really special.  Now, some teams that didn’t have great years are going to have comebacks in 2010–Steelers and Broncos most notably–but IF the Jets continue to evolve this team could be good for 10 years without a hiccup.

Add to the mix the fact that Rex Ryan was a first-year head coach and he’s good at his job and you’ve got a winning combination.  I only hope that he doesn’t pull a Jim Mora and let the team slide downhill like what happened here in Atlanta.  (Wait, I forgot, his Quarterback isnt’ a lazy felon).

The Jets are at least going back to the AFC Divisional Playoffs.
