KSU vs UTVince Young was interviewed by ESPN this week and showed once again that he does not get it.

Young wants to be a starter for somebody next season and was asked if he could work as a backup. This was his reponse:

“I’m going to go into the organization, the team, and compete. That’s all I can do, and let them make their own decision after that. Definitely I am a starting quarterback, an elite quarterback in the NFL. I want to go ahead and start. But like it always is, the coaches have the last word.”

An elite quarterback Vince? Really?

Consider the elite quarterbacks in the NFL: Manning, Brady, Rivers, Brees, Roethlisberger and Aaron Rodgers. Young is not close to being named anywhere near this group.

Young will get released by the Titans on February 7th and it will be interesting to see how many teams are interested in signing this “elite quarterback”. Earlier indications that the Vikings are interested and that is about it

And if I am the Vikings consider these career numbers for Vince Young (5 years/54 games).
689 of 1,190 for 8,098 yards and 42 TD’s and 42 INT’s. That translates into 150 yards passing and .78 TD’s per game.

264 carries for 1,380 yards and 12 TD’s.

So the Vikings can expect, based on past performance that Young will pass for around 2,400 yards and 12 to 13 TD’s next season. Pretty pedestrian numbers.
