Twas The Night Before Training Camp…

Twas the Night before training camp when all through the dorm, none of the players were showing, especially Mike Wallace; The pads were hung in the lockers with care, with hopes of a Championship Games lingering in the air.

The Steelers are nestled all snug in their beds, for one last night before the season ahead; with visions of wins dancing in their heads.

With Coach Tomlin locked up with another extension, he is officially ready to release the training camp aggression.

When out in the field their arose such a clatter, Coach sprang from his bed to see what was the matter.  Over to the window he flew like a flash, through open the shutters, through open the sash;   When what to his wondering eyes should appear, but Steelers Nation, camping with Cheer.   He knew in a moment, that it must be St Vincent!

More happy to see his players than ever, he began calling them out Now Kiesel, Now Hampton, Now Brown and Sanders!  On Redman, On Clark, On Foote and Big Ben!   To the top of the Hill, to the top of the stairs, now stash away stash away stash away all!

So up to their dorms the players they moved , with bags full of  toys, but no Wallace yet, Boo Hoo!

Down the hall, Coach came with a bound, dressed in all black, from his head to hit foot.

His clothes were all wrinkled from his planning the season;  A bundle of joy he had strapped on his back, and he looked like a peddler just opening his pack.

(This is the section during Twas The night Before Christmas when we describe St Nick.   I was planning to do this, but every time I tried, I envisioned Coach Tomlin with a long white beard, droll little mouth, smoking a pipe.   Just nothing I could do with that…so on with my post.)

A wink of his eye and a twist of his head, soon gave Steeler Nation to know, we had nothing to dread.   He spoke many words, and went straight to his work, handing out assignments then turned with a jerk.   And laying a finger on the side of his nose, he gave his team a nod and exclaimed as he rose “The Standard is the Standard!”

“Happy Football Season To All, and To All…Go Steelers!”
