Sports Illustrated ran a poll with 239 NFL players voting on the most overrated players in the game. Overwhelmingly, the players voted for Terrell Owens. Somewhere, in a dark room TO is saying to himself, they still love to hate me.
TO has never been one to accept any responsibility for the way others perceive him. He thinks they are all just picking on him. He doesn’t think he’s ever been a distraction or problem for any team. He thinks it’s all someone else and how they love to hate him because he’s so much better than they are. Apparently, a majority of NFL players doesn’t think he is. Or is that really what they think? Are their votes based on his performance or the fact that he runs his mouth and takes no responsibility for blowing up teams? I’m thinking it’s a bit of both.
Owens has done well enough for the Bengals, but the Bengals have a lot of issues, mainly with their QB throwing balls to the other teams. Is that TOs fault? Not at all. Owens has 31 catches for 476 yards and two TDs this season. That’s probably quite a few more than some of the WRs voting in this poll. I think there are a few more players in the NFL who are overrated more than TO is, they just don’t command the “this guy needs to take responsibility” comments that TO does.
Following TO in the poll are Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo(7%), New York Jets QB Mark Sanchez (5%), Washington Redskins DT Albert Haynesworth (5%) and New York Giants QB Eli Manning (4%). I think any of these guys definitely qualify as overrated. But why are they not ranked higher or just as high as TO? Because they still love to hate him, or so he says.
