The Real Reason The Lockout Should End

While there are a multitude of reasons for the NFL lockout to be over, there is one that stands out above all others.  That reason is so that players, owners, coaches, administrators and others can just be quiet already.

One after another with so much time on their hands people involved with the NFL are speaking out.  They are on television, radio, doing public speaking events, on Twitter and Facebook.  They put their two cents in about everything and anything.  Some say things that are downright stupid.  Others say things that get twisted to look stupid.  Still others say things that are just plain ridiculous.  They are finding themselves with no real football work outs and no real feeling that there will be football this season and they just keep talking.

The lockout needs to end so that they can keep their mouths shut.  Union reps saying that the NFL is a cartel.  Players saying they wish there were a lockout every year.  Players saying that if there is no football season that crime will increase.  And on and on it goes.  These people have nothing better to do and seemingly have no real desire to see the lockout end, so they just go here and there saying and writing whatever pops into their heads.  It’s not like they are going to get any NFL punishment so they are free and clear to say whatever they want.

The Ravens Ray Lewis is the latest in a long line of NFL people to come out and say something ridiculous.  Lewis said that if there is no football that a segment of the population will resort to criminal activity as they have nothing else to do.  He said that, “There’s too many people that live through us, people live through us. Yeah, walk in the streets, the way I walk the streets, and I’m not talking about the people you see all the time.”  He also said they will do so because there’s nothing else to do.

Really?!  Some segments of the population without football to watch on Sundays will resort to crime?  While there may be a few people who find themselves at a loss over what to do on Sundays if there is no football, to say that the crime rate is going to go up if there’s no football is just ridiculous.  Also, to make out like football is all some people have in their lives to keep them from turning into criminals is ridiculous.

The lockout needs to end and soon before one of these NFL people says something that damages the sport.  Believe me, if anyone is going to do something crazy because there’s no football on Sunday, it’s all these folks running around spouting off their mouths.
