Wishful Thinking

Full disclosure, I am a New England Patriots fan and have never been good with the Colts winning as a result.  However, I have a great deal of respect for Peyton Manning as a football player and I wish that he would return to play, but that is becoming more and more like wishful thinking, and not just for myself.

Suck For Luck

A new phrase has entered the NFL terminology and it’s fast becoming a staple on things like Twitter and Facebook.  Suck for Luck.  The phrase describing how underperforming teams might be losing in order to up their chances of being able to draft Stanford QB Andrew Luck number 1 in the 2012 draft.

As Peyton’s World Turns

In any given article written about Colts QB Peyton Manning you are likely to see the following:

His neck injury isn’t healing as quickly as hoped.

His neck injury is much worse than reported.

He can’t feel his throwing arm.

He’s got a sore back now.

It’s all lies being cooked up to keep the fans going.

It’s all lies being spread by rival teams.

It’s a “Favre” moment and on opening day he’s going to come running out all ready to play.

Manning Misery

Peyton Manning still does not appear ready to play for the Colts.  He was taken off the PUP list but is still far behind schedule in getting ready to play this season.  The Colts are in trouble but maybe not as much as you might think.

Yes, the Colts without Manning are nowhere near the same team as they are with him.  The Colts without Manning may not get to the playoffs but I wouldn’t be so quick to write them off.  Let’s consider the division in which they play to see exactly how things might unfold in a Manningless world.

Peyton’s Place

The Colts signed formerly retired 38-year-old QB Kerry Collins this week as a backup for Peyton Manning.  Officially, the Colts are still saying they think Peyton will be ready to go by opening day.  In the back rooms however, it’s a different story I think.

Manning has been rehabbing from neck surgery for months.  He is still experiencing issues and symptoms from the surgery and the injury itself.  He is still working with doctors on “regenerating” his nerves.  He has not participated in contact football at all to this point.  I think it is very, very optimistic to think he will be ready for opening day.

Way To Man Up

Peyton Manning has just zoomed to the top of my NFL player respect list.  Manning is in the middle of negotiations on a new contract with the Colts and he is resisting efforts by the Colts owner Jim Isray to make him the highest paid player in the NFL.  Outstanding…..and this is coming from an avowed Patriots fan.

NFL Playoff Predictions

NFL LogoSince I have such a great record of predictions this year (NOT) I may as well keep it going right??  Let’s pick the NFL playoffs!

Saints vs Seahawks – The Saints will win.  That said, let’s look at the only possible reasons they might not.  If the Saints turn the ball over, they won’t win.  If the Saints, can’t score just by passing the ball, they won’t win.  If the Seahawks, get to Brees, the Saints won’t win.  Those are the only ways the Saints won’t win.

Playoffs?! Playoffs?!

Tiny Peyton
The first weekend of the NFL playoffs gets underway on Saturday.  The wildcard weekend with some wild matchups or at least unexpected ones.  The reigning Super Bowl champ Saints have to play the first weekend and the perennial playoff team the Colts barely get in.

Down To The Wire

The NFL season is about to come down to the wire.  One more Sunday and in some cases it’s the day to decide it all as a couple of divisions are still undecided.

Who’s Got Next

There is a Thursday night game this week, but outside of their own fans very few people seem to care.  The Colts vs Titans is a division match up with a lot of implications but few people seem excited about it.  At the beginning of the season, this looked like one of the possible games to watch, now it’s kind of like watching a train wreck.
