T.O. Has Surgery

WR Terrell Owens
Terrell Owens has never backed down from anything.  So, assuming that he would just be hurt and gracefully retire after 15 seasons sounds pretty silly.  Nope, Owens has had a surgery to repair the ACL in one of his knees.  No one is really sure how he hurt himself.  Some people think he was hurt while taping a show for VH1.  Others say that he hurt himself during a workout, but the bottom line is that he wants to come back and he had the surgery in enough time to get ready for the season whenever it comes.

T.O. was very effective for the Bengals last season.  He caught 72 balls for 983 yards.  As a guy in his mid 30’s, that’s pretty doggone good.  The only problem is that one would think he’s not returning to the Bengals.  Carson Palmer wants out, and they only signed Owens to a one-year deal.  So, he’s going to be a free agent when wild-wild west time starts.  That means anybody could have a shot at him.

A couple good landing spots for Owens would be places like Houston (to play opposite Andre Johnson) or Kansas City (to help a young and struggling Matt Cassel.)  The only problem with both of those situations is that the teams are relatively young and he may or may not be an issue in the locker room.  We don’t know until he goes somewhere, but he was a good boy in Buffalo and Cincinnati.  So, anything is possible.

Personally, I’d like to see him back with the 49ers under Jim Harbaugh.  He could close the circle on his career and play a couple years in San Fran and help them get back on top.  It’s not the sexiest pick, but it would be a fun one to watch for all of us.
