Romo and Roethlisberger Hurting

BBC mug of the day 4 - Ouch
Tony Romo has to go for the Cowboys this weekend or they have virtually no shot of winning their division.  They are playing for all the marbles, and he has to be ready whether he has a wrap on his hand or not.

Ben Roethlisberger has two Super Bowl rings.  However, he says he’s going to play if he can deal with the pain.  I’d sit out.  You’re going to the playoffs, and this team has won a Super Bowl from the 6th seed (not that winning it from the 6th is anybody’s dream, but you get the idea.)

If that’s the case, just let the Big guy sit out.  I think most people in Pittsburgh are already afraid that he is going to be damaged and retiring sooner than you would expect your normal quarterback.  With that in mind, he needs to sit out this week.

The problem with letting your starter sit at the end of the season is that you incur some rust whether you want to or not.  You can’t help it.  So, while it might be nice to keep him from hurting, he might be hurting in the playoffs and need the experience playing with this particular kind of pain.  Plus, it might also benefit everyone involved if the offense were running full speed this week.

The same cannot be said for Romo.  He goes.  Period.  They have to step up, win a big game, and he needs to keep shedding his blunderer image that has followed him around for most of his career.  The only way he’s going to do that is to play and win big.  Dallas needs it.  Tony needs.

It’s a tale of two quarterbacks who need two entirely different things.  Let’s hope they and their teams get it right this time around.
