Carolina Panthers Won’t Franchise Peppers

Now if they can get rid of Delhomme the Panthers will be out of the anger management business.

I wanted to title this piece “The Panthers Choose Not To Piss Off Peppers Again”, but I thought that was a little much.  Instead, we’ll just stick with the franchise tag thing.

I don’t think Julius Peppers has wanted to be in Carolina since their Super Bowl loss to the Patriots a few years back, and he keeps making that clear every year.  However, every year the Panthers choose to mess with him and franchise him.  What ever happened to the old adage, “If you don’t want to be here, don’t let the door his you on the way out!”?

I’m just saying.  I would have cut him loose a long time ago.  Plus, he probably would have been EVEN MORE productive if he had been with a team he truly wanted to play for.  I think this goes a little deeper in the appreciation for the game.

If the Panthers respected football they wouldn’t hold onto this guy and risk him doing nothing simply out of respect for the game of football.  What if this dude had been playing for the Colts, or the Chargers, or the Saints?  Imagine how much he could have done…and now that time is lost.

Since this is a new day for Julius Peppers we need to speculate on where he’ll go.  If the Falcons are smart they’ll try to get him to move within the division, but I bet he’s even over this division.

The Colts could use some help.  The Patriots REALLY need help, and the Bengals could use some more depth to put them over the top.

Adding him to any of those teams really revitalizes that team in a heartbeat.  Each one has a good offense, but needs defensive assistance.  Putting Julius Peppers in one of these lineups guarantees an immediate improvement from the defence.  They’ll see him and get their act together real fast.

For my money I’m betting on the Colts.  This guy wants a ring and that’s probably his best chance.
