Osi shouldn’t hold his breath

When Osi Umenyiora went to the press and told them that he was over it and he was promised an extension and all of that, he must have really ticked off Giants management.  I mean, because it’s never gotten done.  So, they’ve been at odds for quite a while now.  Well, Giants GM, Jerry Reese, has made some new comments on the subject.  Let’s see if this can move along.

“We got a lot to talk about.  It could happen. Right now we have a lot of issues to look at and got to formulate a good game plan and see if we can get it done.”

“We are open to everything right now, but we don’t know what we can do yet (salary cap-wise). We don’t even know what the cap number is going to be. There is a lot of issues that we have to fix and address. So we will see what will happen.”

Here’s the problem with all of this.  There is alot to talk about.  There is a great deal that needs to be done, but we are forgetting that the Giants won a Super Bowl and they now have to consider bringing back Brandon Jacobs and paying Victor Cruz.  Basically, there is no place in here for Osi.  That doesn’t mean he shouldn’t get paid.  It means they’re going to pay the stars that are bigger right now.  It would be so easy for them to point to Jacobs and Cruz and this last Super Bowl win and say, “See, they got this one, so they’re getting paid.”

That would leave Osi on the outside looking in, but I could understand, basically, why.  I mean, he ticked them off, and now they have other people they can pay instead.  I understand why Osi was mad, but I think he should have kept it to himself.
