Lockout Imminent?

It appears that we have two sides of a coin flipping all at the same time.  On the one hand we have owners and executives saying that the NFL players are not going to be locked out, blah, blah, blah.

On the the other you have the Executive Director of the NFLPA saying that (as I heard it on the radio yesterday) the likelihood of a lockout on a scale of 1-10 is a “14”.

Ok, does anybody want to explain to me why the players would be stupid enough to force the issue?  Can anyone tell me why the owners would be stupid enough to ruin the good thing they’ve got going?

I know, I know, the owners gave up too much last time, but that’s their own stupid fault.  Now, they might tank the biggest pro sports league in history that is smashing its competition because of their own stupidity and “wrongness”?  Wow.

The players, you would think, wouldn’t want to have any sort of labor dispute given that they want to get paid and most players lead insanely-extravagant-lifestyles.  Isn’t this pure economics?

No, this is about ego.  Pro sports owners think they are the greatest businessmen ever and (to paraphrase a good movie) “compensate for something”.  These guys never played sports and nobody ever picked them to play on their team so now their answer is to buy a sports team and run it badly?

Ok.

Football players aren’t any better.  They already got a free education (which many in this country can’t afford) and then they (in many cases) gave up that free education to play sports for pay.  That’s fine, but TAKE WHAT YOU’VE BEEN GIVEN!

If you aren’t happy then you need to find another job.  If you don’t want to honor the older players that’s fine, but be such a jackass about it.

In the end…everyone looks stupid and we all get to sit back and watch them sling their stupidity at each other.  I’d quote George Carlin, but this is a family show…
