This is what mediocre teams do. When they come back on somebody, they can’t just leave it at football. The bottom line is that you rallied and that was it. So, when the 49ers came back on the Eagles, that was the whole storyline. Instead, Frank Gore has to open his mouth and make a value judgment about a team that has made the playoffs more times with different quarterbacks than there are ways to fit clowns into a 1967 Beetle.
This is just stupid:
“I think playing that second half and the way we came out, the Eagles didn’t want to play no more.”
“We just kept pounding and kept pounding and making plays and we kind of knocked the fight out of them.”
I just don’t see how this is productive in any way. Sure, the Eagles may have had a hard time figuring out what they were going to do in the second half, but calling a team like that quitters is just stupid on the face of it. Moreover, I don’t think that at all is indicative of what the Eagles are about. They are about team pride, that’s why the whole “dream team” thing happened. Why would they quit?
We know Mike Vick isn’t a quitter. He’s been lazy, but never a quitter. If he were a quitter he’d be sitting at home crying about not playing football. So, I have some free advice for Frank Gore and the 49ers.
You’ve already ruined all the good will that was built from about 1980-2000. The least you could do is win something, and then continue to keep your mouth shut. Win more games, and keep your mouth shut. Nobody needs this. 49er fans don’t need this. Other teams don’t need the extra motivation, and you can’t afford to get cocky.
