The Dolphins WR Brandon Marshall was allegedly stabbed by his wife and had to undergo emergency surgery at a South Florida hospital late Friday night. Reports are that Marshall is in the ICU, but that his injuries are no longer life-threatening. His wife has been arrested and charged with the stabbing.
In fact, it appears that Marshall will be discharged from the hospital in short order and will need 2-3 weeks for recovery. His wife is in jail after being arrested on one count of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. Her bond was set at $7500. Also, in spite of the lockout, an NFL spokesman said that the team doctor would be allowed to see him and the team doctor and trainer would be allowed to consult with his doctors on the case.
This is not the first time that Marshall has been involved in some kind of domestic incident. In fact, it is a pattern of behavior for him and his girlfriends and wife. Marshall was found not guilty for an incident involving a former girlfriend in 2008 where he was charged with 2 counts of simple battery. He has had several incidents with his wife, who is now in jail for this stabbing, when she was his fiancee and after they were married. Most of the cases never made it to court because they refused to testify against each other.
Marshall was traded from the Broncos to the Dolphins last April four-year, $47.5 million extension. He led Miami in receptions (86) and receiving yards (1,014) last season. Marshall made the Pro Bowl with the Broncos in both 2008 and 2009.
