College Football Top 20 for September 6.

After week one of the college football season, our top twenty took a few hits but overall stood up pretty well.  Boise State went into the lair and came out on top.  LSU looked better than expected and Oklahoma romped to the glee of sooner fans.  So here is the top twenty for week two.

  1. Boise State (1-0) – After the Broncos found their stride they took apart the overrated Georgia Bulldogs.  Every year Georgia is touted to be a title contended and every year they fall under Mark Richt.  Boise still on top of the rankings.
  2. Alabama (1-0) – Hosts Penn State.  Another week and another win for the Crimson Tide.
  3. Oklahoma (1-0) – Bye.  Big win Saturday and will continue this week.
  4. Stanford (1-0) – At Duke.  Heisman Trophy front runner Andrew Luck was just what was anticipated Saturday.
  5. Texas A & M (1-0) – The Aggies are pointing to the Texas game,  Probably the last game in a long time between the two schools.
  6. Nebraska (1-0) – Hosts Fresno State. An opening day win and moving forward.
  7. South Carolina (1-0) – At Georgia.  The Gamecocks had a tough start with East Carolina, but then Lattimore picked up the pace.  Leading South Carolina to a come from behind win.
  8. Wisconsin (1-0) – Hosts Oregon State.  The Badgers look to keep going this week after the blow out win over UNLV.
  9. LSU (1-0) – Hosts Northwestern State.  The Tigers easily handled Oregon in Game one.  After one more easy game, LSU then begins the fun in the SEC.
  10. Ohio State (1-0) – Hosts Toledo.  A shut out win over Akron.  Big Deal.  Toledo will be a better opponent and give a good test to Luke Fickell.
  11. Florida State (1-0) – Hosts CSU.  Jimbo Fisher wins game one impressively.  But not enough to move up, but actually drops one spot.
  12. Oklahoma State (1-0) – Arizona (Thurs)  Could be in the top 10 if they can beat Oklahoma or Texas.
  13. Florida (1-0) – The Gators with a hard fought win in the first game under new coach Will Muschamp.
  14. Virginia Tech (1-0) – At East Carolina.  Again they are overrated but did come up with a huge win.  Still look for only 8 wins.
  15. Mississippi State (1-0) – At Auburn.  Looked good in the opener.
  16. Michigan State (1-0) – Hosts Florida Atlantic.  Tough opener with Youngstown State but managed to come out a winner.
  17. Oregon (0-1) – Hosts Nevada.  Lost the opener and showed a tendency to put the ball on the ground.  That needs to improve.  Only team in the Top 20 that lost.
  18. West Virginia (1-0) – Hosts Norfolk State.  Good win over in state rival Marshall.
  19. Toledo (1-0) — At Ohio State.  Surprise team out of the MAC but they are a tough team to beat.
  20. South Florida (1-0) – When you can go into South Bend and win a game in a rain storm against your father’s old school, then you deserve a spot in the top 20.  Good Job Skip Holtz!
