San Francisco 49ers

So, Alex Smith threw some passes to Randy Moss in drills, and, he thinks that Randy looks just fine.  Might I remind everyone, again, that Randy Moss is the same guy who admitted to taking plays off when he was a much younger man.  Chances are, his hands are great.  I don’t think we ever implied that they weren’t.

Admittedly, the name Steve Mariucci never crossed the collective minds of those who were thinking of a replacement for Bobby Petrino at Arkansas.  After all, who would think of the former coach-turned announcer?

Mariucci has never “left” the game.  He just left coaching.  The former San Francisco and Detroit head coach has turned his life into the NFL Network.  However circumstances change and so do the paths of life.  Meaning Mariucci could be convinced the college game is his next foray.

49ers Get Jacobs

by Patton on April 9, 2012

Brandon Jacobs is the newest running back in San Francisco, but why?

The 49ers already have Frank Gore.  Isn’t he enough for the team?  Am I missing something here?  Is a two-headed or three-headed monster better than the feature back sitting alone in the backfield?  It was, it can be, but I don’t think that the 49ers necessarily needed Brandon Jacobs.  It’s a nice signing, and it could help free up Alex Smith so that the league doesn’t figure him out quite as quickly.  I mean, that’s a help, but I just don’t think that that’s something you do because you want to.  You do it because you need it.

Manning Picks The Broncos? Why?

by David on March 19, 2012

According to Chris Mortensen of ESPN, Peyton Manning has made his decision … and he’s taking his talent to the Mike High City.

According to Mort, Manning called Broncos VP of Operations John Elway this morning to inform him of the decision. Manning also called the San Francisco 49ers and Tennessee Titans, the other two teams in the running for Manning’s services, to inform them.

Manning threw for Elway and a large group of Broncos and executives and coaches on Friday in North Carolina, and Elway was impressed.

Manningham to 49ers

by Patton on March 18, 2012

Also, the signing of Randy Moss makes sense. Let’s say that the 49ers are making a major play for Peyton Manning. They need to have good receivers in there. They sign Moss and get Manningham, and now Manningham has a hall of famer to look up to and a guy, in Moss, who has to be respected.

The Manning Derby

by Deborah on March 18, 2012

The Peyton Manning derby continued into its second week with little sign of a decision being forthcoming.  It’s almost like the hokey pokey, teams get in, teams get out, Manning flies himself all about.

After meeting with the Dolphins, Titans, Cardinals and Broncos early in the derby process, the Broncos forced the hand of two other teams when the Broncos put out exactly how much they were offering or alleged to be offering Peyton for his services. That figure, said to be around 50 million for 5 years, eliminated the Dolphins and Cardinals from contention.  That left the Titans and Broncos.  But wait, there’s more.

Free Agency in the NFL starts Tuesday afternoon and already, a big name has dropped into the lap of one of the league Super Bowl contenders.

Randy Moss will take his talents out west and play for the San Francisco 49ers.  This is a monster signing for the Niners and coach Jim Harbaugh, because it gives them the weapon they needed in the Championship game with the New York Giants last year when Ted Ginn, Jr was unable to play.

It was a sad announcement to watch.  Not very often do Icons leave their teams on good footing, but Peyton Manning and Indianapolis Colts Owner Jim Irsay showed it can be done.

For a team releasing its franchise player for the last 14 years, Jim Irsay did it with class and finesse.  As Irsay explained, Manning joined the Colts as a 22 year old kid from Tennessee when he was a 37 year old newly appointed team owner of the Colts.  Together they grew up in their respected jobs and blossomed with each other.

Early Favorites for 2013

by Patton on February 8, 2012

Ok, the Super Bowl is over.  Everyone’s packed up their lockers and gone home.  Now we have to start planning for the 2012-13 season.  There are always going to be early favorites, lines in Vegas, and speculation about who can do what.  So, who are the early favorites to get to the Super Bowl next year?

The Steelers have a clear line that takes them right back to the playoffs and a Super Bowl berth.  Basically, they have all the right pieces and they had some rotten luck this year.  Overall, they’re the best team in their division, they have the best QB in their division, and they’ve won two with this core of guys.

Jim Harbaugh Named Coach of Year

by David on February 5, 2012

No surprise that the Associated Press has named San Francisco’s Jim Harbaugh its NFL Coach of the Year.

In his first season as an NFL coach, Harbaugh guided the 49ers to a 13-3 mark and the NFC West title and the conference championship game. The 49ers turnaround was even more remarkable considering that the NFL lock-out sharply reduced the amount of time Harbaugh had to implement his ideas.

“I think it was an amazing season,” Harbaugh said. “In a lot of ways, beyond description. Incredible”
