New England Patriots

For years, at least up until the past decade, the University of Notre Dame was a pillar of college football.  It stood for winning, moral and ethical character.  The school was what most football programs desired to be.

The era of Lou Holtz and Ara Parseghian were the epitome of how a program is to be run.  When winning a game against Notre Dame when coached by that pair, your team had something to be proud of.  It was an accomplishment that would carry throughout the year.  Most of the time Notre Dame was in the midst of a championship run, and would only be beaten once or twice, if at all.

The short lived feud between the New England Patriots and wide receiver Wes Welker is over.  Welker will be staying with the Pats through the next season after inking a new Franchise tag contract Tuesday.

The Welker signing keeps the most consistent receiver quarterback Tom Brady has ever worked with on the team.  Something Brady has to be celebrating.  Welker announced the news on a Twitter account Tuesday, hitting the jackpot with a one year deal over $9 million dollars.

Today, May 2nd, Junior Seau was found dead in his home in Oceanside, CA. TMZ broke the story at 10 a.m. that Seau was found with a gunshot wound to his chest. Reports say that it was a suicide but police continue to investigate the cause of death. This is not the first time that Seau has possibly considered suicide. In 2010, he drove his car off a cliff but said he had just fallen asleep at the wheel. Whatever the cause of death, he will always be remembered as one of the greatest linebackers to play in the NFL.

The football world is in mourning after the announcement of the death of Junior Seau.  Seau was found Wednesday in his apartment from an apparent self inflicted gunshot wound to the chest.

Attempts will be made over the next few weeks to determine why Seau committed something so tragic.  What could have been so overwhelming that continuing to live was something he couldn’t handle?  Already this death is being compared to other former players that have done the same over the past few months.

I mean, from a comedic point of view, it’s really easy to get all over the Patriots because, well, they haven’t won anything since Spygate.  However, I don’t know if their championships are necessarily tainted just because of it.  I heard someone make a good point the other day.  It’s ok to steal signs in the NFL, as long as you don’t tape them.  Well, by that rationale, everybody is probably stealing signs on some level, don’t you think?

As of today the secret is out on who the New Orleans Saints want as their “replacement” coach for Sean Payton.  It’s none other than Bill Parcells, Payton’s mentor.  At first the name sounds a little far-fetched.  But on second thought, it may not be so “out there.”

Parcells has been out of coaching since 2006.  Yet he has stayed in the game as the President of the Miami Dolphins until last year, and then as a commentator on ESPN.  Yet give me one person who has the intestinal fortitude to tell Parcells the game has passed him by.

Patriots Free Agency Fiesta

by Deborah on March 18, 2012

As the Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski is fond of saying, yo soy fiesta.  This may be what all the Patriots are saying after a rash of free agent signings that only make the team better than it already was and some of them on the cheap.

The team signed former Bengals defensive lineman Jonathan Fanene to a three year deal earlier this week.  They then signed former Colt Anthony Gonzalez bolstering an already outstanding receiving corps.  Then, they added former Bronco and Ram Brandon Lloyd  and on the cheap.

Free Agency in the NFL starts Tuesday afternoon and already, a big name has dropped into the lap of one of the league Super Bowl contenders.

Randy Moss will take his talents out west and play for the San Francisco 49ers.  This is a monster signing for the Niners and coach Jim Harbaugh, because it gives them the weapon they needed in the Championship game with the New York Giants last year when Ted Ginn, Jr was unable to play.

The potential destinations for Peyton Manning keeps shrinking. First the Redskins traded for the Rams No 2 pick in the draft, eliminating them from the Manning sweepstakes.

Then the New York Jets took themselves off the market for Manning by extending Mark Sanchez’s contract by three years. The contract extension is for $40.5 million, giving him five total years for $58.25 million, with $20.5 million fully guaranteed, a person with knowledge of the deal told The Associated Press.

It’s not very often we chat about an Arena Football game.  Sure this is a football site and the sport as a whole is worthy of coverage.  However the Arena Football league to most of us seems below the bar.

That’s even though there are several former players and named entertainers that own teams and are involved in the sport.  For example, former NFL quarterbacks Bernie Kosar and John Elway used to own teams.  Jon Bon Jovi is an owner.

Now the stories are coming out of the Indoor Football League where the Allen Wranglers have the biggest name in the league, Terrell Owens.  And immediately Owens is paying off.
