Minnesota Vikings

As we discussed earlier, Jonothan Vilma has filed a lawsuit against NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell for defamation.   This seems to be a difficult word to understand, as found out on ESPN’s morning radio show “Mike and Mike.”

For those who listened to Mike Greenberg this morning on ESPN, let us examine the definition.  According to the English dictionary, Defamation is defined as “the offense of writing or saying something bad about someone that is not true and makes people have a bad opinion of them.”   Hey Mike, was it that hard to get clarification on what defamation means?

To say it has been a tough couple of years for Donovan McNabb would be an understatement.   The former Eagles signal caller has been put through the NFL torture chamber lately.  Still, McNabb showed on ESPN Monday night he is still ready, willing and quite possibly, able to perform for another team.

One NFL coach is standing up and singing the praises of McNabb.  That coach being McNabb’s former mentor Andy Reid of the Philadelphia Eagles.

For the Cleveland Browns, it was supposed to be an evening of hope and excitement.  It started that way, but in the end, it turned out to be business as usual.

The Browns sent three draft picks to Minnesota making sure they could draft Alabama running back Trent Richardson by moving up to the third pick in the draft.  General Manager Tom Heckert declined to reveal the teams that talked with Minnesota about dealing for the No. 3 pick.  He did say that one team made an offer to the Vikings, “and so we beat it.”

The Cleveland Browns have taken Trent Richardson with the third overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft.  For them, it could be a major boon because they will have a running game, but they have so many holes that it will be hard for them to protect him and keep Colt McCoy, or whomever throws the ball for them, upright.  Sure, there are many things to consider here, but, I just don’t know if a running back is the best choice.  Jim Brown isn’t coming back anytime soon.  And, I just don’t think that Trent Richardson is another Jim Brown.

Draft Day 2012.  The day all Cleveland Browns fans call their “Super Bowl” day.  That’s because in past years all they have had to look forward to is the draft.  But this year is required to be different than all others.

Browns fans find themselves restless, almost paranoid.  That coming from one playoff performance since their return to the league in 1999.  This is a drought most older fans haven’t been through before, and younger fans don’t know what it is like to watch winning football.  But even worse, for most fans to remember a good and exciting team, they have to hearken back to the days of Art Modell, and that is a painful memory.

The Vikings of Los Angeles

by Deborah on April 21, 2012

The Minnesota Vikings stadium situation is getting more serious by the day and Los Angeles still appears to be a player in the grand scheme of things.

In what seemed to be doom for the Vikings to get a new stadium in Minneapolis, the NFL commish Roger Goodell paid a visit to the state capitol to try and jump start failed negotiations.  Apparently, it may have had some effect as on Friday by a narrow vote, a Minnesota Senate committee approved a public subsidy to try and help the Vikings get a new stadium built.  The hearing lasted nearly four hours and resulted in a 8-6 vote in favor of the subsidy.   It is hope, but still dim hope, as the Minnesota state legislature is in the waning days of its session and a similar bill was defeated in a house committee just days ago.

Could it be the real mystery in the NFL draft in three weeks is the fourth pick?   It seems Andrew Luck is the solid first pick to Indy.  Washington spent a fortune for the second pick and Robert Griffin III.  Then comes Minnesota and tackle Matt Kalil from USC.  That leaves the Cleveland Browns at number 4.  Or could there be drama before?

The general consensus is that Minnesota needs help on the offensive line, so the obvious pick would be Kalil, who is the top rated tackle in college football.  Yet the injury to Adrian Peterson has many wondering if the Vikings shouldn’t take a running back.  That would mean Trent Richardson, who apparently the Browns have their eyes upon.

A month from now we’ll have our answer. What direction have the Minnesota Vikings decided to take the franchise? With so many holes to fill, their being pulled in too many different directions.

Do they fix a worn-down patchwork defense to take pressure off their rookie quarterback and banged up running back? Do they remain conservative and bolster the offensive attack by sealing their offensive line? Or do they finally put that kick-ass offense to bed and pursue an aggressive air attack?

The Vikings 2012 NFL draft comes down to three players, with each one signaling a different direction the franchise will go…and much like The Matrix the problem is choice.

There is no doubt the Cleveland Browns are as devoid of talent as any NFL team.  They have struggled since re-entering the league in 1999, making the playoffs only once.   Several General Managers, Coaches, Quarterbacks and players later, the Browns are still a consistent 4-12, 5-11 team.

However this year is bringing a ray of hope.  Sunshine clearing out the clouds by the benevolence of the league itself.  Monday it was announced the NFL awarded Cleveland four compensatory picks in this year’s draft, giving the Browns a total of 13.  That is the most picks the team has had since the 1999 draft when they received extra picks for being an expansion team.  The Browns selected Tim Couch, quarterback out of Kentucky as the first pick in the draft that year.

In Part 2 of “Examining the Minnesota Vikings New Stadium Proposal”, I will discuss the stakes of each funding source with the question on what is fair. I will touch on the Minneapolis City Council and their responsibility in making a majority vote as well if/when the legislature finally passes the bill. I will talk about one fan’s opinion which is something that needs to be thought about more by everyone. To conclude, I will give my humble opinion as well about what should be done, where the stadium should go, and what YOU the reader can do in signing a petition to make a difference in reigniting the discussion on the ideal stadium site. *Hint- the forgotten site “Arden Hills!!”
