It is a moment that has been coming; now it is here. NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell is going to have to come clean on what he has regarding the New Orleans Saints players and “bounty-gate.”
Jonathan Vilma, one of the 4 players suspended by Goodell, has sued the NFL Commissioner in federal court for slander and libel for public remarks made when issuing accusations and discipline against the team, coaches and four players in the Saints‘ “bounty” scandal. Vilma was banned from playing for the 2012 season and issued a fine for allegedly offering a $10,000 bounty to knock players out of games.

The scandal in New Orleans is past and now the rest of the penalties have been announced. The biggest non-issue is almost over, but not without controversy.
Sean Payton, Gregg Williams, Joe Vitt and Mickey Loomis were the first shoe to drop. The other shoe dropped Wednesday as “Czar”, or should we say Commissioner Roger Goodell suspended four players in conjunction with their participation on “bounty-gate”.
The Commissioner suspended linebackers Jonathan Vilma and Scott Fujita, along with defensive tackles Anthony Hargrove and Will Smith. All had different culpability in the event and thus, got different suspensions. However Vilma was hit the hardest.

So the Miami Dolphin fans are in an uproar. Stephen Ross bought the team over a year ago promising big things. Yet the big things have gone elsewhere and the fans are growing restless.
First the team released Chad Henne. The Michigan product had one good season as the quarterback of the Dolphins, but then never fulfilled what he showed. Mark him gone to the team up North, Jacksonville.
Then came the Peyton Manning negotiations. Or rather, lack of negotiations. Miami was expected to be a destination for Manning. After all it made sense that Manning would want a warm weather climate for his ailing neck. Yet he chose a cold weather city in Denver. So again, the Dolphins were left wanting.

The Miami Dolphins have been jilted again as former Green Bay Packers quarterback Matt Flynn went against common opinion and signed a three-year, $26 million deal ($10 million guaranteed) with the Seattle Seahawks instead of with the Miami Dolphins. Flynn was thought to be a shoo-in for the Dolphins as the new Miami head coach Joe Philbin was Green Bay‘s offensive coordinator from 2007-2011,
But instead he spurned south beach for the rain in Seattle, in what is a massive win for Pete Carroll and the Seahawks. Other than Peyton Manning, Flynn was the best free agent quarterback available.

Ok, the Super Bowl is over. Everyone’s packed up their lockers and gone home. Now we have to start planning for the 2012-13 season. There are always going to be early favorites, lines in Vegas, and speculation about who can do what. So, who are the early favorites to get to the Super Bowl next year?
The Steelers have a clear line that takes them right back to the playoffs and a Super Bowl berth. Basically, they have all the right pieces and they had some rotten luck this year. Overall, they’re the best team in their division, they have the best QB in their division, and they’ve won two with this core of guys.

For the fifth consecutive year a quarterback has been named the Associated Press NFL Most Valuable Player.
Green Bay quarterback Aaron Rodgers is the 2011 winner in a landslide. He picked up 48 votes out of a possible 50 to easily distance himself from New Orleans quarterback.
“It means a lot to be recognized as a consistent player and contributing on my team,” Rodgers said. “I think it’s an award that relies on a player having the support of his teammates, obviously, guys blocking, guys running, guys catching, guys making plays. But I’m very honored to receive the award.”

Not very often does a writer get to include two passions into their work. Writers need to be passionate about their labor. Most of the time those passions do not cross over. However when they do, there is a chance to satisfy both. This is one of those times.
Protests are expected this Sunday at the Super Bowl in Indianapolis. These protests are targeting Governor Mitch Daniels and his signature on a new bill making Indiana a Right to work state. Thousands of union members gathered inside the Statehouse chanted “Shame on you!” and “See you at the Super Bowl!” as the vote was announced.

I heard Deion Sanders say this phrase last season on NFL Network. You cannot win football games if you put the church’s money on the ground. Apparently, Green Bay didn’t listen.
The Packers repeatedly put the ball on the ground. They put it on the ground with fumbles. They put it on the ground with dropped ball after dropped ball. The ball was on the ground more than it was in the air on the Green Bay side of the ball. A team that commits that many mistakes and has that many turnovers will not win a football game, just ask the Saints.

If you’re the Giants, you seem to have an affinity for Lambeau Field. It makes you play well in the playoffs. The Packers, really, should have won this game easily, but they stopped playing well at the wrong time. I honestly thought that the Pariots would be the number one seed most likely to miss the Super Bowl. Now, I see I was wrong.
The Giants are on a tear. They are doing exactly what they did the last time they won the Super Bowl. They are getting hot late.

In the Packers/Giants game, the story is power football. Only for these two teams it’s for very different reasons.
The Packers power comes out of the hand of Aaron Rogers. His ability to manage a game from the three step drop is just about unparalleled in the NFL. His release is lightning quick. His ability to read the defense and make adjustments on the run is second to none. Power football for the Packers comes on the offense and for most teams they play it is almost impossible to overcome.
