The Cardinals took Michael Floyd even though they have many other needs because they know one thing to be 100% true.  If they invest in their offense enough, they can make the turnaround they really want to make.  Sure, Kevin Kolb hasn’t been great, but, if he has more targets with sure hands, he might have a much better chance of being accurate and effective.  So, the Cardinals took the receiver that can propel their offense back into the realm where they were when Kurt Warner was at the helm.

As of today the secret is out on who the New Orleans Saints want as their “replacement” coach for Sean Payton.  It’s none other than Bill Parcells, Payton’s mentor.  At first the name sounds a little far-fetched.  But on second thought, it may not be so “out there.”

Parcells has been out of coaching since 2006.  Yet he has stayed in the game as the President of the Miami Dolphins until last year, and then as a commentator on ESPN.  Yet give me one person who has the intestinal fortitude to tell Parcells the game has passed him by.

So as the Chicago Bears sign one running back, upsetting another, a third has retired.  So goes the sage of the Monsters of the Midway.

The Bears have signed former Oakland Raiders running back Michael Bush, the reason why is not known as of yet.  Bush said in a conference call after signing the contract was a four-year deal worth $14 million, with $7 million guaranteed.

Under normal circumstances, this agreement would make sense.  However this is not normal.  Chicago already has Matt Forte, one of the best running backs in the league and the team’s franchise player.  The franchise tag means Forte will be paid $7.74 million, which is $7 million more than he was paid in 2011.

It’s not very often we chat about an Arena Football game.  Sure this is a football site and the sport as a whole is worthy of coverage.  However the Arena Football league to most of us seems below the bar.

That’s even though there are several former players and named entertainers that own teams and are involved in the sport.  For example, former NFL quarterbacks Bernie Kosar and John Elway used to own teams.  Jon Bon Jovi is an owner.

Now the stories are coming out of the Indoor Football League where the Allen Wranglers have the biggest name in the league, Terrell Owens.  And immediately Owens is paying off.

Retired star running back Tony Dorsett is one of more than 300 former players suing the National Football League. He says the league pressured injured players to “get back out” on the field, causing long-term brain damage.

Romo and Roethlisberger Hurting

by Patton on December 31, 2011

BBC mug of the day 4 - Ouch
Tony Romo has to go for the Cowboys this weekend or they have virtually no shot of winning their division.  They are playing for all the marbles, and he has to be ready whether he has a wrap on his hand or not.

Ben Roethlisberger has two Super Bowl rings.  However, he says he’s going to play if he can deal with the pain.  I’d sit out.  You’re going to the playoffs, and this team has won a Super Bowl from the 6th seed (not that winning it from the 6th is anybody’s dream, but you get the idea.)

Showdown

by Deborah on December 28, 2011

It’s like a tale from the old west or perhaps even the Bible depending on which side you’re on.  Can the Cowboys win a showdown like one at the OK Corral or will the Giants be victorious although that Bible story didn’t work out too well for the Giants did it?

This is the game of the weekend in the NFL in my opinion.  All of the other games have some form of scenario to decide what the post season will look like for those teams.  Some even have multiple scenarios.  The game between the Cowboys and Giants has only one.  Win.  To get into the playoffs a team must win this game and this game alone.  It’s just that simple and that difficult.

NFC Playoff Picture

by Deborah on December 27, 2011

The NFC playoff picture is a bit more complete.  There aren’t quite as many spots left to be filled and not as many scenarios to play out as in the AFC, but you still might need to print it out for this weekend’s games.

The teams that are locked in so far are the Packers with the NFC North and home-field advantage, the 49ers with the NFC West, the Saints with the NFC South, the Lions with a playoff spot and the Falcons with a playoff spot.

Still up for grabs, the 49ers clinch a first-round bye with a 49ers win OR a 49ers tie plus a Saints loss or tie OR a Saints loss to the Panthers.

Controlling Fate

by Deborah on December 23, 2011

Several teams in the NFL control their own fate coming down to the last 2 games of the regular season.  Their goal now is just to win the last 2 games and then let the post season chips fall where they may.

The Falcons, Lions, Broncos, Raiders, Giants and Cowboys are all in control of their own fates.  Some of these teams have an easier road than others, but all have only one place they need to go, the win column.

Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders - Series 02 - 016
Tony Romo is one of the most unfortunate souls in the NFL.  He’s great, but he’s made major blunders late in the season or in the playoffs. So, every year, nobody expects him to be able to muscle anything out when it counts.  Right now, his Cowboys are in front in the NFC East, but they are not expected to do anything amazing, so we forget about them.
