As we discussed earlier, Jonothan Vilma has filed a lawsuit against NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell for defamation. This seems to be a difficult word to understand, as found out on ESPN’s morning radio show “Mike and Mike.”
For those who listened to Mike Greenberg this morning on ESPN, let us examine the definition. According to the English dictionary, Defamation is defined as “the offense of writing or saying something bad about someone that is not true and makes people have a bad opinion of them.” Hey Mike, was it that hard to get clarification on what defamation means?

It is a moment that has been coming; now it is here. NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell is going to have to come clean on what he has regarding the New Orleans Saints players and “bounty-gate.”
Jonathan Vilma, one of the 4 players suspended by Goodell, has sued the NFL Commissioner in federal court for slander and libel for public remarks made when issuing accusations and discipline against the team, coaches and four players in the Saints‘ “bounty” scandal. Vilma was banned from playing for the 2012 season and issued a fine for allegedly offering a $10,000 bounty to knock players out of games.

The Cleveland Browns may have jumped the gun on draft day, but you cannot argue with the fact they got the two players they most wanted in the draft.
That Thursday night before the first round of the NFL Draft the Browns traded several low round picks to move up one spot. That move was made to ensure Cleveland could select the player they wanted the most, Trent Richardson of Alabama. Later, the Browns selected with the 22nd pick in the first round, Brandon Weeden from Oklahoma State. Both players participated in last week’s rookie mini camp in Berea.

The scandal in New Orleans is past and now the rest of the penalties have been announced. The biggest non-issue is almost over, but not without controversy.
Sean Payton, Gregg Williams, Joe Vitt and Mickey Loomis were the first shoe to drop. The other shoe dropped Wednesday as “Czar”, or should we say Commissioner Roger Goodell suspended four players in conjunction with their participation on “bounty-gate”.
The Commissioner suspended linebackers Jonathan Vilma and Scott Fujita, along with defensive tackles Anthony Hargrove and Will Smith. All had different culpability in the event and thus, got different suspensions. However Vilma was hit the hardest.

Usually the Ohio State Buckeyes are well represented in the NFL Draft. It’s not odd for 3-4 players to be drafted in the first rounds, with others being taken later. However this year, after a season in which unrest and inconsistency hampered the buckeyes, only 3 players were taken in the entire 253 picks. Then two more signed on as free agents.
The first player selected was offensive lineman Michael Adams by the Pittsburgh Steelers with the 56th pick overall. Adams dropped into the second round because of his alleged positive drug test at the combine in Indianapolis. This sent Adams to Pittsburgh to try and clear things up with the team he wanted to play for.

I know I was suppose to write day by day updates on the Cleveland Browns Draft but I decided to sum it up in this one article. The Cleveland Browns gets a well deserved D for the entire draft. Let’s go with the first round, Trent Richardson with the third pick. Really! Yes he’s a great player but the problem is you need more then just him. The Browns gave up a two fourth round picks and a seventh which was way too much when you have so many needs. Surely you could have stayed at 4 and gotten CB,Morris Claiborne , WR, Justin Blackmon or OT, Matt Kalil. Or they even could have traded back and got more picks if Trent wasn’t available at 4. The players I mentioned could have filled needs on the team and gotten your running back at 22 with Doug Martin. Okay so that’s one strike against the Browns.

Did the Cleveland Browns accomplish their goals in the 2012 NFL Draft? Doubtful. It appears they put their fans through an emotional roller coaster throughout the weekend. Not something an NFL team wants to do to their fans.
With 13 picks coming into the draft, the Browns set the stage on the very first night by flipping picks with Minnesota for three other selections to get the man General Manager Tom Heckert wanted, Trent Richardson of Alabama. However even that pick was less than positive for Hall of Fame running back Jim Brown.

In the NFL every player is always one play away from the end of his career. This is something each player lives with and accepts as part of their future. For Colt McCoy it may not have been the hit, but the hit his father gave the Cleveland Browns front office last December that may have predicated his exit.
The Browns ended the Colt McCoy tenure as quarterback when they drafted Oklahoma State’s Brandon Weeden with the 22nd pick in the first round Thursday night. However, in retrospect, McCoy may have been done on a Thursday night in Pittsburgh and the aftermath that ensued.

For the Cleveland Browns, it was supposed to be an evening of hope and excitement. It started that way, but in the end, it turned out to be business as usual.
The Browns sent three draft picks to Minnesota making sure they could draft Alabama running back Trent Richardson by moving up to the third pick in the draft. General Manager Tom Heckert declined to reveal the teams that talked with Minnesota about dealing for the No. 3 pick. He did say that one team made an offer to the Vikings, “and so we beat it.”

The Cleveland Browns have taken Trent Richardson with the third overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft. For them, it could be a major boon because they will have a running game, but they have so many holes that it will be hard for them to protect him and keep Colt McCoy, or whomever throws the ball for them, upright. Sure, there are many things to consider here, but, I just don’t know if a running back is the best choice. Jim Brown isn’t coming back anytime soon. And, I just don’t think that Trent Richardson is another Jim Brown.
