Usually the Ohio State Buckeyes are well represented in the NFL Draft. It’s not odd for 3-4 players to be drafted in the first rounds, with others being taken later. However this year, after a season in which unrest and inconsistency hampered the buckeyes, only 3 players were taken in the entire 253 picks. Then two more signed on as free agents.
The first player selected was offensive lineman Michael Adams by the Pittsburgh Steelers with the 56th pick overall. Adams dropped into the second round because of his alleged positive drug test at the combine in Indianapolis. This sent Adams to Pittsburgh to try and clear things up with the team he wanted to play for.

Trouble. That should be the middle name of Arizona State Linebacker Vontaze Burfict. Burfict lasted through all 7 rounds of the NFL draft over the weekend without being selected. That should have been a clue he needs to clean up his attitude.
However just after the draft, reports surfaced Burfict was going to sign a free agent contract with the Cincinnati Bengals. Fair enough, they need depth at that position. However Burfict proved how out of touch he is with how he comes across to the NFL brass.

Up until Tuesday, it appeared the first three picks of the NFL Draft in April was set in stone. However Tuesday the order of things to come may have changed. Reports have surfaced where the Indianapolis Colts are wavering on the first pick.
Throughout the past two seasons, Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck has been the consensus number one pick. Luck would have been the top pick one year ago had he not decided to stay in college for another year of seasoning.

Is the owner of the Cincinnati Bengals, Mike Brown, smart enough to make a play for current Carolina Panthers running back Jonathan Stewart?
It is rumored that the Panthers are pursuing Michael Tolbert, the 5’9” 245 pound bowling ball of a running back from San Diego in free agency. The Coastal Carolina product would be a nice addition for Carolina, but do they need him? Looking at the Panthers’ current cap situation ($5.3M over) combined with the latest NFL draft trends, getting running backs cheaply, later in the draft, it would appear irresponsible of them to sign Tolbert and retain both DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart.

It’s not very often we chat about an Arena Football game. Sure this is a football site and the sport as a whole is worthy of coverage. However the Arena Football league to most of us seems below the bar.
That’s even though there are several former players and named entertainers that own teams and are involved in the sport. For example, former NFL quarterbacks Bernie Kosar and John Elway used to own teams. Jon Bon Jovi is an owner.
Now the stories are coming out of the Indoor Football League where the Allen Wranglers have the biggest name in the league, Terrell Owens. And immediately Owens is paying off.

For the first time in years, the Pittsburgh Steelers are at a crossroads in the off season. Over the salary cap, the Steelers must not only try and renegotiate several contracts, but make decisions on what players, if any, they take a chance on losing.
The prime threat of leaving the Pittsburgh organization could be wide receiver Mike Wallace. Wallace is one of the premier pass catchers in the NFL, but his contract is up, making him a restricted free agent. That means any team that wants to sign Wallace would have to give a first round pick to the Steelers in order to do so.

Not very often does a writer get to include two passions into their work. Writers need to be passionate about their labor. Most of the time those passions do not cross over. However when they do, there is a chance to satisfy both. This is one of those times.
Protests are expected this Sunday at the Super Bowl in Indianapolis. These protests are targeting Governor Mitch Daniels and his signature on a new bill making Indiana a Right to work state. Thousands of union members gathered inside the Statehouse chanted “Shame on you!” and “See you at the Super Bowl!” as the vote was announced.

Today is the start of the NFL playoffs and the first game of the first round has a lot of questions to be answered.
The Cincinnati Bengals face off against the Houston Texans in Texas. The Bengals are one of the back in teams while the Texans won their division weeks ago. Both teams are young and this is a new place for them to be.

The AFC playoff picture is partially painted through week 16 but there are still some spots up for grabs under various scenarios.
Already solidified are the AFC East and a 1st round bye with the Patriots. The AFC South spot is also sorted out with the Houston Texans. The two wildcard teams right now are the Steelers and Ravens but that could change depending on what happens this weekend.
The Ravens clinch the AFC North division and a first-round bye with a Ravens win OR a Ravens tie and a Steelers loss or tie OR a Steelers loss. The Ravens clinch home-field advantage throughout the AFC playoffs with a Ravens win and a Patriots loss at the Bills.

I have wanted three teams from the same division to make the playoffs for such a long time! It’s been close to happening a few times, and anytime I was writing in the sports media, I would catch on pretty quickly. Well, if the season ended right now (there’s that dreaded phrase) the Steelers, Ravens, and Bengals would ALL be in the playoffs. Pretty remarkable, huh?
The funniest part of that is that the Steelers and the Bengals would be the wildcards. Somehow, the Ravens have been solid enough to outlast the Steelers.
