Arizona Cardinals

Trouble.  That should be the middle name of Arizona State Linebacker Vontaze Burfict.  Burfict lasted through all 7 rounds of the NFL draft over the weekend without being selected.  That should have been a clue he needs to clean up his attitude.

However just after the draft, reports surfaced Burfict was going to sign a free agent contract with the Cincinnati Bengals.  Fair enough, they need depth at that position.  However Burfict proved how out of touch he is with how he comes across to the NFL brass.

The Cardinals took Michael Floyd even though they have many other needs because they know one thing to be 100% true.  If they invest in their offense enough, they can make the turnaround they really want to make.  Sure, Kevin Kolb hasn’t been great, but, if he has more targets with sure hands, he might have a much better chance of being accurate and effective.  So, the Cardinals took the receiver that can propel their offense back into the realm where they were when Kurt Warner was at the helm.

The Arizona Cardinals have some distinct needs at certain positions on their roster, and they should be able to address one of them with the No. 13 overall pick. But which will it be?

The answer to that question largely depends on which prospects are taken with the first 12 picks. It could be that the players that they really like are off the board by the time their pick rolls around. However, there are certain scenarios where they’ll have their choice of either Iowa OT Riley Reiff or Notre Dame WR Michael Floyd, both of whom would make an impact as rookies.

There’s one hypothetical scenario where the Arizona Cardinals land USC OT Matt Kalil in the first round of the draft, and there are some who believe that the club is simply going to draft the best available offensive lineman with the No. 13 overall pick. Of course, the O-line is not the only position of need on the team, and the team isn’t going to reach at that spot.

The quarterback position on the Arizona Cardinals has been a crazy merry-go-round spinning round and round this past year.

They received Kevin Kolb last year in a trade and gave him a new contract that guaranteed him $19 million including a $7 million dollar roster bonus paid to him last month. Kolb then played mediocre and missed more than half of the season with head and toe injuries. After, back-up John Skelton out-played Kevin and Arizona began tracking down Peyton Manning this offseason.

Yesterday, Nike showed off its new uniforms in Brooklyn for all 32 of the NFL teams, including the Arizona Cardinals. The Cardinals did not go through a lot of changes to their red and white uniforms, like their NFC West counterpart Seattle did. However, a change to Arizona‘s jerseys were not expected because the organization likes their red home and white away jerseys. The uniforms are not exactly the same as last years though; according to the Nike website they are tighter and lighter:

As free agency progresses throughout the NFL, teams have started organizing their draft boards, including the Arizona Cardinals. April is the month of the draft so organizations have a couple weeks to sort out their needs and scout out future draft picks so that they can be ready for anything come draft day. As for the Cardinals, they have a lot of things to figure out, most notably on the offensive line.

With the dreams of Peyton Manning sporting a cardinal red jersey in 2012 now completely down the drain, it is time for fans to cool their heads and gain better perspective of our current quarterback. Kevin Kolb was thrust into an Arizona spotlight with just over a month to prepare for the regular season, attempting to grasp an offense that took future Hall of Famer Kurt Warner two seasons to nail down.

The Manning Derby

by Deborah on March 18, 2012

The Peyton Manning derby continued into its second week with little sign of a decision being forthcoming.  It’s almost like the hokey pokey, teams get in, teams get out, Manning flies himself all about.

After meeting with the Dolphins, Titans, Cardinals and Broncos early in the derby process, the Broncos forced the hand of two other teams when the Broncos put out exactly how much they were offering or alleged to be offering Peyton for his services. That figure, said to be around 50 million for 5 years, eliminated the Dolphins and Cardinals from contention.  That left the Titans and Broncos.  But wait, there’s more.

Finding LaRod Stephens-Howling at training camp or game day is easy, just look for a 5 foot 7 blur, burning up the field. Despite the ease of fans locating AZ’s pint-sized-play-maker, our offense seemingly forgot to get him the ball despite providing huge plays in the clutch.

With Beanie Wells and Ryan Williams commanding the backfield next year, the Cardinals should heavily consider moving Stephens-Howling to the slot.

After thoroughly reviewing the very few snaps LSH has played as a slot receiver, he possesses elite quickness and foot speed to shred a team’s interior and occasionally stretch the field. LSH will be an absolute nightmare after the reception is made, as 213 of his 234 receiving yards came after the catch last year.
