Montana Tru

Trumaine Johnson Highlights

Montana CB Trumaine Johnson was selected by the Rams in the 3rd round of the draft with the number 2 pick.  Montana Tru was the 65th pick overall and one look at his highlight film shows part of the reason why.

Johnson is 6′ 1″ and 204 pounds.  He is polished and athletic.  He has speed and agility and the height to also match up with receivers.  Johnson is NFL ready despite playing in the FBS.

The Rams took Johnson with the 2nd pick of the 3rd round.  Fisher knows Johnson well as  his own son played DB at Montana.  He is very familiar with Johnson’s strengths and abilities.

One Roar At A Time

by Deborah on April 27, 2012

If you listen closely you can hear that low rumble that is coming from Detroit.  The one that says the Lions are ready to be taken seriously.  Not the little engine that could, but the lion that could eat you for dinner.

The Lions made some noise in the first round of this year’s draft when at 22 they took OT Riley Reiff out of Iowa.  Reiff is not just a big tackle, he’s a HUGE tackle.  He is 6′ 6″ and weighs in at 313 pounds.  Reiff was brought in for one reason and one reason only, to protect Matthew Stafford.  He will likely start on the right side but then will probably move to the left as time progresses.  Reiff started every game at Iowa and proved very durable in a run heavy offense.  He’s very smart and will likely adapt very well to NFL speed and playbooks.   A definite roar for the Lions.

Falcons At 55

by Deborah on April 27, 2012

One of the things that comes with being a really good team the previous season is that some of the time you don’t get a lot of high draft picks.  If you add a trade up from last year that cost picks as well, you end up with the Falcons at 55.

The Patriots Way

by Deborah on April 27, 2012

The Patriots are always unpredictable in the NFL Draft.  They trade draft spots to move up to take players no one expects and they take players in later rounds that turn out to be some of the greatest to ever play the game.  It’s the Patriots way.

Draft Dance

by Deborah on April 27, 2012

The NFL Draft always proves out a few things. Some picks are a sure thing, some are an acceptable outcome and some are just downright surprising or even plain crazy.  It’s like the whole league has an empty dance card and they are just looking for partners.

After millions of mock drafts and speculation that would make a Wall Street guy look like an amateur, the league just dances to its own tune.  The first round pick is almost always a given and a lock.  Rarely in the last few years has that pick been anything but what has been reported weeks before the draft.  This year was no different.  The Colts said that they wanted Andrew Luck.  They let Peyton Manning go.  They intended to rebuild their team from the top down and that’s exactly what they did. No surprises.  They went home with the one they brought to the dance.

The Vikings of Los Angeles

by Deborah on April 21, 2012

The Minnesota Vikings stadium situation is getting more serious by the day and Los Angeles still appears to be a player in the grand scheme of things.

In what seemed to be doom for the Vikings to get a new stadium in Minneapolis, the NFL commish Roger Goodell paid a visit to the state capitol to try and jump start failed negotiations.  Apparently, it may have had some effect as on Friday by a narrow vote, a Minnesota Senate committee approved a public subsidy to try and help the Vikings get a new stadium built.  The hearing lasted nearly four hours and resulted in a 8-6 vote in favor of the subsidy.   It is hope, but still dim hope, as the Minnesota state legislature is in the waning days of its session and a similar bill was defeated in a house committee just days ago.

Top 5

by Deborah on April 15, 2012

The NFL 2012 Draft is now just 11 days away.  The mock drafts are flying fast and furious.  As the clock winds down, the top 5 draft picks become more solidified and more consistent.

As I made my way through multiple mock drafts this morning, I came to realize that the top 5 was starting to really solidify across a wide variety of experts and sports writers.  Across the boards, the top 5 started to look more and more the same as the draft clock ticked down the days.

No Kickoffs For You

by Deborah on April 15, 2012

Slowly, inexorably, deliberately, the NFL is moving closer and closer to flag football and further and further away from what it once was.  Soon, it may be completely unrecognizable.

Last year, the NFL decided to change kickoffs from the 30 yard line to the 35 in what they said was an effort to reduce injuries.  The NFL now claims that the increase in touchbacks led to a decrease in concussions.  The NFL has been pressed by lawsuits from former players and their families in regards to concussions to make changes to the game that can be “perceived” as trying to make the game safer.

Fan Rehab

by Deborah on April 15, 2012

In recent years, more and more fans are finding themselves ejected from NFL stadiums.  Now the NFL has decided to make returning to the stadium even tougher for these fans in hopes of curbing stadium incidents and violence.

The next time a fan gets ejected from an NFL stadium, they will have to take a $75 four hour online class and then pass a code-of-conduct test to get back in.  The idea was developed by a psychotherapist, Dr. Ari Novick, and the NFL has decided to go with it.

Making Me Look Good

by Deborah on April 9, 2012

Earlier this weekend, I wrote about some of the hot stocks to watch in the upcoming NFL Draft. One of those picks was Michael Floyd.  With the latest news, Mr. Floyd is making me look good.

Michael Floyd has been invited to the NFL Draft.  This generally means that the NFL believes Michael has a good shot of going fairly high up in the first round.  Only players like that get an invite to come to New York.  The latest buzz has Floyd possibly going as the FIRST wide receiver in this year’s draft ahead of Justin Blackmon.  Blackmon has long been held as the wide receiver who would go first.  That is until after Floyd’s magnificent Pro Day.  Now, everything has shifted.
