Draft Day 2012. The day all Cleveland Browns fans call their “Super Bowl” day. That’s because in past years all they have had to look forward to is the draft. But this year is required to be different than all others.
Browns fans find themselves restless, almost paranoid. That coming from one playoff performance since their return to the league in 1999. This is a drought most older fans haven’t been through before, and younger fans don’t know what it is like to watch winning football. But even worse, for most fans to remember a good and exciting team, they have to hearken back to the days of Art Modell, and that is a painful memory.

Charlie Weis continues to amaze. No not with his stellar record as a head coach. Which by the way was 35-27 in 4 years at Notre Dame. But with his ideas on what players should work on in his spring drills.
It’s no secret many thought the new coach at Kansas was more talk than action. He had talent galore at Notre Dame, yet couldn’t muster a .500 record after his first two years. His first year he went 9-2, then 10-2 his second year. But recruiting was never a high priority. Weis never brought in players to replace the NFL stars he lost. The winning went right out the window and Weis was fired in 2009.

Are changes coming to the BCS? If you listen to Bill Hancock, the Executive Director of the BCS, caution is the word.
Hancock says they look over the system every four years, and that is what they are doing now. But nothing has been, nor will it be soon, decided. Practically everything is on the table, from the format to who can automatically qualify to play in the BCS.
So far the proposals for the next cycle, which begins in 2014, range from minor adjustments to the current system to a four-team playoff plus eight other BCS games that may have no direct impact on the championship. Former coach and Hall of Famer Lou Holtz is definite in his opinion for changes to the BCS.

Admittedly, the name Steve Mariucci never crossed the collective minds of those who were thinking of a replacement for Bobby Petrino at Arkansas. After all, who would think of the former coach-turned announcer?
Mariucci has never “left” the game. He just left coaching. The former San Francisco and Detroit head coach has turned his life into the NFL Network. However circumstances change and so do the paths of life. Meaning Mariucci could be convinced the college game is his next foray.

Could it be the real mystery in the NFL draft in three weeks is the fourth pick? It seems Andrew Luck is the solid first pick to Indy. Washington spent a fortune for the second pick and Robert Griffin III. Then comes Minnesota and tackle Matt Kalil from USC. That leaves the Cleveland Browns at number 4. Or could there be drama before?
The general consensus is that Minnesota needs help on the offensive line, so the obvious pick would be Kalil, who is the top rated tackle in college football. Yet the injury to Adrian Peterson has many wondering if the Vikings shouldn’t take a running back. That would mean Trent Richardson, who apparently the Browns have their eyes upon.

For years soccer players have transformed themselves into kickers for football teams. It’s not that big a stretch. You kick a ball, no matter what the dimensions of the ball are, through a pair of posts leading into the air. All this before several men rush towards you and either block the ball down, or hit the kicker.
It’s a daunting task for some. Certainly the two teams that played for the BCS National Championship would love to have a kicked that can consistently put the ball through those goalposts. Now LSU is working for the next three days giving a soccer player a shot at the job.

Could the NCAA be close to a playoff system for college football?
Believe it or not it appears that might just be the case. The BCS is looking at all scenarios and the 4 team playoffs system seems to be getting the most talk. This would mean the top 4 teams in the country, this year that would have meant LSU, Alabama and Oklahoma State would have been in the playoff. There would have been a fight between Oregon and Stanford for the final spot.

National Letter of Intent signing day is coming up this week. It’s a huge day for High School athletes looking to take their talents to the college level. Of course the talent level isn’t known at this time, and won’t be for another 2-3 years. That doesn’t stop some publications from letting us know who the winner is for bringing in the most talent.
Scout.com has made their 2012 top ten recruiting list available. It appears Mack Brown and Texas have gotten off the mat and been named this year’s winner. Now can they coach them?

The debacle Monday night the BCS tried to pass off as a National Championship game has everyone involved abuzz. Changes are coming, finally. And those changes seem to have the blessing of NCAA President Mark Emmert.
This might be the first time the NCAA, or anyone associated with it, have expressed approval in public to a possible playoff system. Emmert came out Thursday and said he would be pleased with a four team playoff, as long as it would not grow.

Finally. Fittingly and without excitement Alabama won the rematch and the BCS National Championship of College Football. Let’s be honest. This game was a Dud!
The Crimson Tide proved they had much more to play for than LSU. But that is to be expected. LSU beat them earlier. It has been said before and needs to be said again and again until changes are made.
LSU had nothing to play for Monday night.
That’s right. The Tigers had already beaten their opponent. So since Alabama won, maybe both teams should just suit up and play again Saturday. See who can be more boring two out of three times.
