Cam Newton is hot on many draft boards. Teams are clamoring to meet with him. He’s the hot topic in the NFL draft, but someone’s draft guide finds Newton to not be a great catch.
I think we could say that a QB needs to be a little cocksure, and should have some finesse and pizazz to him, but this assessment of Newton is a pretty intense interpretation of Newton’s personality. Here’s Nolan Nawrocki’s opinion:
“Very disingenuous — has a fake smile, comes off as very scripted and has a selfish, me-first makeup. Always knows where the cameras are and plays to them. Has an enormous ego with a sense of entitlement that continually invites trouble and makes him believe he is above the law — does not command respect from teammates and will always struggle to win a locker room . . . Lacks accountability, focus and trustworthiness — is not punctual, seeks shortcuts and sets a bad example. Immature and has had issues with authority. Not dependable.”
Um, wow. I think I could sum this one up better. I know I’m not a respected draft guide writer, but I think I’m qualified to summarize this little tidbit about Newton.
“Cam Newton sucks. He’s a bad guy. He’d sell your mother for a quarter, stab you in the back, steal your girl, do a hostile takeover of Under Armour, and throw interceptions on purpose.”
Isn’t that how it reads? I mean, dang! I’ve seen nicer assessments of players who were arrested for drug possession and DUI’s. I know Cam Newton might not be your favorite person in the world, but, in a draft guide, that’s a little personal for me. I agree:
1. Newton may be a little too egotistical, and
2. He may be too “star-driven” but I don’t think that warrants this.
I’m just sayin’ Let’s say those things about him AFTER he changes his name to Brett Favre.
