Browns Fire Eric Mangini

CLE vs SD 4The Cleveland Browns are looking for their fifth coach in 13 years after Browns president Mike Holmgren fired Eric Mangini today. Mangini went 10-22 in two seasons in charge in Cleveland.

A statement on the Browns web site said:

“This decision was not easy for me, and it was one into which I put a great deal of thought,” said Browns President Mike Holmgren. “Although we have made improvements this season, my responsibility is to ensure that we establish a program that will allow this team to compete at a championship level. That will continue to be our goal in everything we do. I want to thank Eric for all of his contributions to the Cleveland Browns, and wish him and his family the best of luck in the future.”

On what will replace Mangini, Holmgren said:

“It’s a pretty wide search; we’re not limiting ourselves in any way. We will talk about this every day until it gets done. Tom Heckert and I will be the point-people to travel and meet people. Probably around noon or 11 o’clock, we sent out request forms for a few guys and we’re waiting for responses. My goal is to find exactly the right person for head coach of the Cleveland Browns and will eventually lead us to a championship.”
