Brady Quinn did an interview with GQ Magazine, and it was done back during the season, where he said some not-so-nice things about Tim Tebow. The quotes could have been taken out of context, but, still…
“I felt like the fans had a lot to do with that. Just ’cause they were chanting his name. There was a big calling for him. No, I don’t have any billboards. That would have been nice.”
“The entire game, the defensive line is chasing the quarterback around, and that wears down the pass rush. Meanwhile, the defensive backs are chasing receivers, but you only throw eight passes, so they start to feel lazy.”
“If you look at it as a whole, there’s a lot of things that just don’t seem very humble to me. When I get that opportunity, I’ll continue to lead not necessarily by trying to get in front of the camera and praying but by praying with my teammates, you know?”
Ouch. Now, I agree that some of this is true, but, I don’t think that Quinn needs to be saying that to anybody but Tebow, and he certainly doesn’t need to be saying it in the middle of the season. I mean, you kind of have to just deal. Tebow is a freight train. You got unlucky. It sucks. But, that’s life. Sorry, dude.
I hope that Quinn has learned a valuable lesson from this. Tebow is a bigger commodity than he is. Football is a business. Tebow sold tickets. Sure, he may not be the best answer, but, the team has every right to put out the best option to make them money. I can understand that even if it seems crappy.
So, did Brady Quinn just do himself in in Denver? Probably. He should have kept his mouth shut. These are just silly things to tell a reporter.
