One of the biggest games of the weekend takes place today, Friday, instead of the traditional Saturday. Arkansas vs LSU in a battle of #3 vs #1 and one that could determine how the BCS plays out in a big way.
Arkansas comes into the game ranked #3 overall and with a record of 10-1 overall and 6-1 in the SEC. The Hawgs are 10th overall in passing yards and 13th overall in points for. LSU on the other hand is ranked #1 overall with an 11-0 overall record and a 7-0 record in the SEC. They are 19th overall in rushing yards, 14th overall in points for but the big stat for LSU is that they are 2nd overall in points against. Their defense allows very, very few points. Mostly against cupcake teams, but even against Alabama.
Depending on how the Alabama game against Auburn turns out on Saturday, there could be a 3 way tie atop the BCS. That would bring the tie breaker scenarios into play that I’ve already covered in previous articles here. Of course all of this is speculative. First, Arkansas has to beat LSU and that is going to be a tough task to accomplish. I do think that Arkansas has a chance to come out the winner in this game but they have to be able to throw the ball as they have all year against LSU’s defense.
LSU on the other hand has to be able to stop Arkansas offense. They were able to do so against Alabama who were ranked 15th overall in rushing yards. But LSU has not really faced a passing offense. They are very, very good on the line but they might not be as formidable down the field. If LSU cannot stop the down field ball, they will not win this game.
All eyes in the SEC and the BCS will be on this game today. There is so much at stake on how this game turns out. Arkansas has a huge opportunity here, but LSU is not going to just lie down and let them roll over them. It will be a fight, Hawgs vs Tigers, and it should be a great game to watch.
