BCS Boggle

The BCS rankings are going to get shuffled yet again this Sunday.  After upsets to both Oklahoma and Oregon, the landscape will shift yet again.

Oklahoma State was upset as well this past week.  It is going to make for an SEC top 3 more than likely, with LSU, Alabama and Arkansas.  That’s how most people are seeing it as of right now.  Hard to tell how the BCS will come down though as many thought after Alabama’s loss to LSU they would fall more than they did.  Losses to unranked opponents though tend to have a more precipitous drop in the rankings than do losses to ranked opponents.

Rivalry week is upcoming in the SEC.  That means that LSU will play Arkansas in what some say could lead to a loss for LSU, their first of the season.  Alabama will play a ranked Auburn team that has played well and poorly this season and you never know which team you’re going to get.  With the upsets that have been happening the last couple of weeks, it is not out of the realm of possibility that Auburn could hand Alabama it’s 2nd loss of the season.  This would then throw the BCS into total chaos.

There would then be no undefeated teams left in top 10 of the BCS rankings and it would probably be two 1 loss teams in the title game.  But which two 1 loss teams would it be?  And what happens if say Oklahoma loses to Iowa State?  Or Oklahoma State loses to Oklahoma on Dec. 3rd?  It boggles the mind.

Who plays for the BCS title may well come down to the very last game of the year for some teams.  Or it may not.  If LSU beats Arkansas and stays undefeated that solves one of the teams in the title game….unless they were to lose to Georgia in the SEC Championship and that might knock them out.  That would be totally up to the BCS though.  Even if LSU gets into the title game, that still leaves their opponent undecided and they may not know who it is until after the weekend of Dec. 3rd.

The rankings coming out later today could well have a big impact on who has a shot at the title game.  It all depends on how far the upset teams fall and that right now is anybody’s guess.  Let the BCS boggle begin!
