Bama Wins It All

At 21-0, that’s all that Alabama needed to win the BCS National Championship.  It was a game filled with defense in which the LSU defense simply could not counter anything that the Bama offense threw at them.  Moreover, the LSU offense could not handle the Bama defense.  It’s the kind of game that was the worst nightmare of all LSU fans.  Yes, they were clearly the best team all year, but they were a little bit more than that.  They were the golden children.  They had everything going for them, but, when it counted, they did not have what it took.

The Tide had a gameplan and they executed it perfectly.

Others thought that if Alabama won the title, there would be a split title with the AP.  Not so, the Tide won the AP national title as well.

Does this mean that it was worth having the rematch?  I suppose so.  The team that lost the initial game won the national title, but others would say that the Tide should have had the second chance.  If that’s the case, then you might think that it would have been better to have a playoff so that other teams in Bama’s situation could join in on the fun.

We will never know what would have happened if we had had another team in the game, but one thing is clear, there needs to be more opportunities for good teams to play for the national title.  Otherwise, we are missing out on more chances to see upsets like this.  I saw so many people picking LSU, but that was not to be.

In the future, I hope we can look back to this game to see that it was a catalyst for some kind of change in the BCS.  It may not change for a couple years, but it will change–one day.

And this might be the reason.
