So, Alex Smith threw some passes to Randy Moss in drills, and, he thinks that Randy looks just fine.  Might I remind everyone, again, that Randy Moss is the same guy who admitted to taking plays off when he was a much younger man.  Chances are, his hands are great.  I don’t think we ever implied that they weren’t.

As soon as Washington made the trade to get the number two pick, which came after Indy making it very clear that they were taking Andrew Luck, RG3 was number one on their depth chart at quarterback.  I don’t think this is mystical or mysterious to anybody.  I suppose one might call it strange to be so sure so soon, but when you’re the Redskins, you have to take whatever you can get.

A BCS playoff system has haunted college football for quite some time.  It’s been around like the ghosts you would see on reenactments on “Unsolved Mysteries” where an old barracks is just teeming with random spirits that are going about what they did before they passed into the afterlife.  They never bother anybody, but they’re there and you know it.

Personally, I don’t believe in ghosts.  (Now, I feel like Mr. Crabs telling an invisible SpongeBob and Patrick that “I don’t believe in no ghosts!”)

Junior Seau was found dead at the age of 43, and, I have no plans on getting into the details of whether or not it was self-inflicted.  It’s not worth it.  The bottom line is:  Losing Junior Seau is every sports fan’s loss.  He was one of the greatest players of all time, and he was certainly the most energetic player who ever played the game.

I heard someone mention this morning that only two guys he had seen play the game like they were still in middle school were  Brett Favre and Junior Seau.  I would propose to you that Junior Seau played the game like he was in elementary school.  Nothing against Brett Favre, but Junior Seau had more energy than everyone else in the league combined.

I mean, from a comedic point of view, it’s really easy to get all over the Patriots because, well, they haven’t won anything since Spygate.  However, I don’t know if their championships are necessarily tainted just because of it.  I heard someone make a good point the other day.  It’s ok to steal signs in the NFL, as long as you don’t tape them.  Well, by that rationale, everybody is probably stealing signs on some level, don’t you think?

Coby Fleener was picked up by the Colts early in the second round.  Presumably, this is the perfect thing for Andrew Luck, who I believe the Colts want to be as comfortable as possible.  I think it’s a wise move, but it is not a move that we should be surprised by.  The Colts are being very smart about this draft.  Rather than pretending that they can simply throw together a roster, they are leaning in the direction of the comfort of Andrew Luck.  I like that.  It makes more sense than trying to put together a roster that looks good on paper but may not satisfy Luck.  After all, he’s the new golden boy.  Isn’t he?

The Cardinals took Michael Floyd even though they have many other needs because they know one thing to be 100% true.  If they invest in their offense enough, they can make the turnaround they really want to make.  Sure, Kevin Kolb hasn’t been great, but, if he has more targets with sure hands, he might have a much better chance of being accurate and effective.  So, the Cardinals took the receiver that can propel their offense back into the realm where they were when Kurt Warner was at the helm.

I think Justin Blackmon is an amazing receiver.  He has the potential to be, at the very least, Randy Moss-like (without the attitude,) but I just don’t see how he’s going to work out in Jacksonville.  And, it’s not him, it’s the team.  The Jags only have Blaine Gabbert to throw Blackmon the ball.  If that’s the best they have to offer, this guy is not going to have a method by which he can produce.  If he can’t produce, he’s just going to wallow in Jacksonville, or they become a pass-first offense in which he gets overworked.  Can we really imagine a place in which Blackmon is going to be catching 20 balls a game?

The Cleveland Browns have taken Trent Richardson with the third overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft.  For them, it could be a major boon because they will have a running game, but they have so many holes that it will be hard for them to protect him and keep Colt McCoy, or whomever throws the ball for them, upright.  Sure, there are many things to consider here, but, I just don’t know if a running back is the best choice.  Jim Brown isn’t coming back anytime soon.  And, I just don’t think that Trent Richardson is another Jim Brown.

You know how it goes in the NFL Draft.  You take the best guy on the board.  That’s just what you do.  If you see value there, you have to draft it.  Of course, in the first round, you want to target a specific need, but still, the Redskins need a quarterback and they don’t have the first pick.  So, when they start praising RG3 to the sky, I don’t think that we can do anything but assume that they like him (but I think can’t overlook the fact that they might be a little disappointed that they can’t get Andrew Luck.)
