NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell has to be looking in the mirror wondering what he did to upset the football Gods. Hall of Fame wide Receiver Art Monk is the latest in a long line of retired players to join in another lawsuit against the league.
We have discussed ad nauseum what Goodell hasn’t done to help those in need who placed the NFL on the map. To make the NFL what it is today for him to become Commissioner with only one goal in mind, the 18 game season.

Vince Young is back. No not with the Philadelphia Eagles. That experiment lasted but one season. No Young is in Buffalo where the former Heisman trophy winner out of Texas is now the new backup quarterback for the Bills.
This should be an interesting ride for Young. He is stepping into a situation where the Bills starter, Ryan Fitzpatrick, is an average quarterback at best. He had the Bills out to their best start in years last season, yet the team digressed and finished third in the AFC East.

In the American political climate today, we are expected to pick our fights with painstaking thought. Evidently that memo was lost on Nebraska assistant football coach Ron Brown.
Brown rejoined the Nebraska coaching staff in 2008 and enters his fifth season on Bo Pelini’s staff in 2012. Brown is responsible for the running backs on the Cornhusker staff. However avoiding hits must be something Brown isn’t teaching, because lately he has taken many.

Amazingly enough, Notre Dame is getting another pass. Easily the most problem-laden College football school in the NCAA is engaged in another dilemma surrounding their quarterback Tommy Rees. However outside of South Bend, the story isn’t carrying.
Rees was arrested on four misdemeanor charges early Thursday after he tried to outrun police breaking up an off-campus party. Somehow Rees avoided a felony charge after Prosecutors reduced a felony battery charge. Rees and linebacker Carlo Calabrese were arrested after a confrontation with police who arrived at a “loud party” less than a mile from campus. Calabrese, 21, was charged with misdemeanor disorderly conduct, while Rees, 19, faces two misdemeanor counts of resisting law enforcement and one count each of battery and illegal consumption of alcohol by a minor.

The football world is in mourning after the announcement of the death of Junior Seau. Seau was found Wednesday in his apartment from an apparent self inflicted gunshot wound to the chest.
Attempts will be made over the next few weeks to determine why Seau committed something so tragic. What could have been so overwhelming that continuing to live was something he couldn’t handle? Already this death is being compared to other former players that have done the same over the past few months.

The scandal in New Orleans is past and now the rest of the penalties have been announced. The biggest non-issue is almost over, but not without controversy.
Sean Payton, Gregg Williams, Joe Vitt and Mickey Loomis were the first shoe to drop. The other shoe dropped Wednesday as “Czar”, or should we say Commissioner Roger Goodell suspended four players in conjunction with their participation on “bounty-gate”.
The Commissioner suspended linebackers Jonathan Vilma and Scott Fujita, along with defensive tackles Anthony Hargrove and Will Smith. All had different culpability in the event and thus, got different suspensions. However Vilma was hit the hardest.

Can it not go away? Even with the NFL Draft just ending in New York, there was a subtle subject floating from room to room. It’s the favorite subject of Commissioner Roger Goodell. That being the 18 game regular season.
Goodell is broaching the subject of the possibility of an 18-game season again. He just cannot let it go. The players almost unanimously turned it down during the lockout last year, but Goodell has never been one to take no for an answer.
So here he is again, telling reporters that he is still looking into the issue.

Two college quarterbacks with big names were left undrafted over the weekend. Kellen Moore of Boise State and Case Keenum of Houston were outstanding in college, but their talents just don’t transfer into the pro game according to some scouts. Yet because of their numbers both are being invited to training camp to try out for a spot on teams.
Keenum will stay close to home and sign on with the Houston Texans. This may be more of a recognition signing by the Texans rather than a possible job with the club. This does show a lot of good will by the team to a player that put Cougar football back on the map this season.

Usually the Ohio State Buckeyes are well represented in the NFL Draft. It’s not odd for 3-4 players to be drafted in the first rounds, with others being taken later. However this year, after a season in which unrest and inconsistency hampered the buckeyes, only 3 players were taken in the entire 253 picks. Then two more signed on as free agents.
The first player selected was offensive lineman Michael Adams by the Pittsburgh Steelers with the 56th pick overall. Adams dropped into the second round because of his alleged positive drug test at the combine in Indianapolis. This sent Adams to Pittsburgh to try and clear things up with the team he wanted to play for.

Trouble. That should be the middle name of Arizona State Linebacker Vontaze Burfict. Burfict lasted through all 7 rounds of the NFL draft over the weekend without being selected. That should have been a clue he needs to clean up his attitude.
However just after the draft, reports surfaced Burfict was going to sign a free agent contract with the Cincinnati Bengals. Fair enough, they need depth at that position. However Burfict proved how out of touch he is with how he comes across to the NFL brass.
