64

Lotsa Red
I’ve read a lot of sports articles in my time and I’ve read a lot of pre-season college football polls.  Sometimes the two have one thing in common, the need for someone to put down the crack pipe immediately.  The Orlando Sentinel has been counting down the 120 Football Bowl Subdivision teams and guess who they put at 64?  Go ahead, guess.  I dare you to get it right.

Time’s up.  It’s the University of Georgia.  Seriously, pipe confiscation should be a requirement for some sports writers.  There is no way and I mean no way Georgia is ranked at 64.  None.  Even with their “numbers” analysis, it doesn’t add up.

The team has 10 offensive starters returning.  Granted, they have a brand new quarterback.  But 10 starters returning, that’s a whole side people.  AJ Green, Washaun, Caleb King and even they admit that Green may be the BEST receiver in the entire country.  And the team ranks 64?

The defense is still a question, but it returns 6 starters.  They will have to step it up to stop the points bleeding that was allowed last season.  But even a less than stellar defense can’t account for a 64 rating.

Then there’s the schedule:

Sept. 4, Louisiana-Lafayette
Sept. 11, at South Carolina
Sept. 18, Arkansas
Sept. 25, at Mississippi State
Oct. 2, at Colorado
Oct. 9, Tennessee
Oct. 16, Vanderbilt
Oct. 23, at Kentucky
Oct. 30, Florida (in Jacksonville)
Nov. 6, Idaho State
Nov. 13, at Auburn
Nov. 27, Georgia Tech

Going out on a limb, I’d say it’s not that bad.  Not bad at all.  This same poll ranked three other SEC teams lower than Georgia, No. 97 Vanderbilt, No. 72 Tennessee and No. 65 Kentucky.  Let’s just get it out in the open.  The Orlando Sentinel is located in what state?  Florida.  And how much do Florida fans hate Georgia?  More than Lady Gaga hates polyester.  Bias?  You be the judge.
